How Do I Earn My CPLP?
The CPLP is a three-part process:
  • Have three years or more of learning industry experience.
  • Exam consists of 150 multiple choice questions from across all ten (10) Areas of Expertise and six (6) Foundational Competencies.
  • Submit a work sample to be reviewed and scored by a panel of learning experts.

How Do I Prepare?
The first step to prepare for your CPLP is to review the CPLP Candidate Bulletin located on the National ATD website. Next, you will want to register for the exam by completing the CPLP Application and paying your exam fee ($799 for National Members/$999 for Non-Members).

The next step is to prepare for the exam. ATD has created the ATD Learning System, which costs $449 (Member)/$595 (Non-Member). The ATD Learning System also offers companion flashcards and a CD-ROM at an additional cost.

What are My Study Options?
National ATD has an interactive study guide and self-paced courses online.

Want an instructor-led or group study format? ATD has it! They offer both an in person and ILT online workshop.

CPLP Testimonials

“It’s been a number of years since college so I really felt the commitment of the Dallas ASTD Study Group would be helpful. And, boy, was that right!  The format kept me on my toes through the “teach back” chapter assignment and weekly review tests.  I was accountable to myself and my peers without external stress.  Insights from the facilitator and other experienced CPLPs helped me know what to expect during every step of the certification process.  Plus I made some new friends and colleagues.  Would I recommend the CPLP Study Group?  YES!!”

Jeff Persaile, CPLP
President - Dallas ASTD for 2011

"For those considering studying and applying for the CPLP credential, I highly recommend the CPLP Study Course.  The collegial environment provides a great forum for discussion and application of CPLP content and learning components.  The rigor and discipline of the weekly assignments supports knowledge preparation in a timely manner.  Facilitation by CPLP credentialed professionals gives expertise, guidance and support for both the knowledge exam and the learning project submission.

The benefits of the CPLP Credential for me include:
  • Recognition in the Learning and Performance Development field as an expert
  • Proven tools for analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation of Workplace Learning solutions
  • Access to a board group of CPLP professionals and expertise
  • Availability of CPLP only training and development at ASTD International Conferences

"The Dallas ASTD CPLP Study Class was time well spent.  Barb had valuable inside knowledge that made the study group worthwhile in a number of areas.  Working with the study group was very helpful, not only for studying the material, but also as a support group who offered encouragement along the way.  Holding the CPLP certification positively influenced training projects for which I was selected.  And, having the CPLP enriched my experience at this year’s ASTD International Conference.  I highly recommend training professionals, especially those in the field for a while, obtain the certification."
