Connecting Volunteerism with Team and Career Development

April 27, 2018 11:30am - 12:30pm
Facilitator: Robert Clements, Officer, Individual and Corporate Giving, North Texas Food Bank

One of the most common challenges facing companies today is the competition to attract, develop and retain talent. The modern workforce wants to feel like their employer is invested in their personal growth and the wellbeing of the community. Volunteerism not only supports the operation of many worthwhile charitable organizations but it also provides opportunities for individuals to learn new skills, fosters a sense of purpose, and creates corporate cultures that demonstrate a willingness to make a positive impact. If you have ever thought about volunteering or struggled to find new way to build your team’s cohesiveness or to find development avenues for yourself and others, then this presentation is for you.

At the end of this session, you should be able to:

  • See a connection between volunteerism and being considered an employer of choice
  • Leverage volunteerism to create new skills and sharpen existing ones for yourself and others
  • Visualize how the hands-on experience of volunteerism can provide more benefit that classroom training
  • Recognize volunteer opportunities
  • Understand how peer organizations have partnered with a valued local non-profit organization
