BRIEF DESCRIPTION

Whether you already have a job or not, you need to connect with others in an engaging way that influences them (to hire or promote you, to better understand your competencies and passion, to learn how to be more successful themselves, etc.). LinkedIn (LI) is a useful tool for accomplishing these objectives.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

In this session the group will:

• Give examples of the value of connections, whether working or in job search
• Recommend best practices for connecting with others on LI
• Analyze examples of people who engage with others via LI
• Compare and contrast different ways to influence others via LI

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR

Laurie Barnett has a passion for helping others seek and build successful careers. She has hosted the Career Development SIG at ATD Dallas for nearly 8 years.

Getting Ready:

1. Use the Zoom app on your mobile phone, connected to a 4G network for the best possible experience. Or use a computer or tablet connected to WiFi, making sure you have a stable connection with good bandwidth for a streaming video/audio connection.

2. If you plan to use a computer for the video AND a phone for the audio, make sure you mute the audio features on one of your devices to avoid disruptive audio feedback/noise.

3. Come prepared to join in the discussion!
