Active learning experiences are what every instructor wants in the classroom. It is what memory experts claim produces lasting retention and delivers greater ownership of the learning process, yet the concept is easier to acknowledge than to execute. That is where experimental design comes to the rescue!
A lot of research already exists on how separate brain systems and cognitive modules operate. To benefit from those studies, though, we need to read from that field doing the work. That means staying informed, challenging established norms, and identifying models that can more predictably describe optimal cognitive function where learning and memory are concerned.
In other words, instructors can turn experimental methods into lesson plans & activities so there is more overlap between what we know works and how we help learners come to know it. In this interactive workshop, find out how to put behavioral and brain science to work for you.
Faculty focused workshop, esp. applicable for English, writing, rhetoric & language instructors.
